The Mona Lisa of India

Bani Thani was a singer and poet in the court of Kishangarh in the 18th century. She became the beloved of Raja Sawant Singh — so devoted to Krishna and Radha that he abdicated the throne and, with Bani Thani, settled in Vrindavan.

Around 1750, court painter Nihal Chand immortalized her likeness in a series of Radha-Krishna paintings, portraying Bani Thani with elongated features, lotus-shaped eyes, arched brows, and the grace of a queen. These paintings are now India's most recognized works of miniature art.

In this अलबेली rendering, Bani Thani lives again — appliquéd from salvaged Kota Doria scraps and brought to life through hand-painting.

By choosing this अलबेली product, you are:

  • Supporting Women Artisans: Directly contributing to the livelihoods and independence of talented women in Kota.
  • Embracing Eco-Friendly Practices: Giving new life to discarded fabric through our innovative upcycling techniques.
  • Adding a #WastetoWow Piece to Your Home: Owning a product that actively reduces waste and promotes a circular economy.
